About Roger Prior

Roger is another member of Rock Radio’s Darlington Mafia. He grew up on the mean streets of the west-end no-body knows or wants to know your name, but he doesn’t like to talk about that.

What he does talk about is that he was actually big in Japan, but only for a week.

At 15 he borrowed a bass guitar from his school bus driver and the rest is history. He ditched the bass because it hurt his fingers, picked up an acoustic guitar which also hurt his fingers, joined a band called the Chase, started singing, came third in the Turk’s Head Battle of The Bands and had a number one on a niche Japanese internet download site for unsigned folk bands.

Deciding he’d had enough of life in the limelight Roger joined a pack of hairy-backed roadies (pack is the correct collective noun for roadies) lumping sound desks and bass bins for the likes of Deacon Blue, Westlife and Atomic Kitten. They were star studded, crazy times, he was kicked off Jim Davidson’s tour after being caught with a can of lager and was invited for a drink with his hero Ian Brown…but when they got backstage the beer had all been polished off.

Roger regales these and many more tales from his Rock Memoires every Saturday and Sunday from 12 till 2 on Rock Radio.
